Thinking about audience
Find an audience and analyze it
- Go to the duotrope database of publications that accept submissions.
- Spend some time looking through the database and getting used to how it works.
- Find at least two publications to which you might want to submit
- They both must be accepting submissions in the next few weeks
- You must be eligible to submit to both
- They should be publications you would be proud to be published in - On your blog, post the names of the publications, the deadlines and submission criteria (electronic or the address to which to send manuscript, word count etc.). Also post a link to the publications web site if available.
- Also on your blog, for each, write an audience analysis. This is only possible if duotrope provides this information about the publication or if the publication's web site will let you figure it out. Include the following:
- Who reads this publication? (Age, interests etc.)
- What types of pieces do they want to read? (Genre, tone, style etc.)
-What will you do to make a piece of your writing fit this publication?
